Mindset of A Successful Bodybuilder


The mind is a powerful thing. It has the ability to conceive and create. The greatest inventions of our time all started as an idea. Knowing how to harness the power of your mind is critical and often precedes any kind of success. This truth applies to the bodybuilding universe. Having the right frame of mind is the most essential ingredient for success.

The road to building the ideal physique is a long and trying one. It is physically and psychologically involving. It takes you out of your comfort zone and forces radical changes in your lifestyle. As creatures of habit, it compels us to go against our very nature as we are by design, attracted to the path of least resistance. By knowing that the path will be trying, you become primed for its hurdles.

The Right Attitudes

Your devotion to bodybuilding should be almost spiritual. You have to teach yourself to adore bodybuilding. When your heart, and by extension, your very existence wants that life of fitness, it becomes easier to start the path and stay on it. Make bodybuilding one of the reasons you live. Serge Nubret described bodybuilding as his reason for being. It was his purpose and he resigned himself to it completely and as a result, built a physique of greatness.

These are the words of Arnold, a bodybuilding figure that showed us that there are no limits except those we impose on ourselves.

Visualize your success. Look in the mirror, and see, not what you are, but what you can become. Believe that you can carve out that dream physique. Resign to the idea that the kind of body you dream of will be yours if you put in the work and the time. Preparing yourself for the journey creates a mental fortress of energy that will come to your rescue when the going gets tough. It becomes the glue that keeps you on the wagon so you never fall off.

When the resolution is set in stone, you have to formulate a winning plan. Time and motivation are the two resources that you are going to need most.

As far as time goes, you have to find it. With 24 hours in a day, finding just one for strength training is not an impossible task. Do what most legendary bodybuilders do, and create your schedule around your workouts. In other words, schedule for your gym time as you plan your day, and then fill it up with everything else. Prepare your meals in advance, and make only the right choices.

This is the mantra you need to live by.

For motivation, you have to continually seek it. The online fitness universe is colossal, and you will always find it if you go looking. Allow yourself to be inspired by others.

Be willing to push yourself. Find the focus when you are in the weight room, and respect what you do there. Don’t shy away from those big weights. In the words of Ronnie Coleman, if you want to be a bodybuilder, you’ve got to lift some heavy-ass weights.

Celebrate every little success. Keep moving forward and strive for progress. With patience, perseverance and determination, you will inevitably become a successful bodybuilder.
